NVFC Launches Volunteer Recruitment Portal for
Fire Departments to Combat Declining Volunteerism

Register your department's volunteer opportunities

The National Volunteer Fire Council (NVFC) has launched the department portal component of its new Make Me a Firefighter volunteer recruitment campaign. Departments can now sign up at http://portal.nvfc.org to join the campaign and showcase their volunteer opportunities.

The first component of the Make Me a Firefighter campaign consists of a department portal where volunteer and combination fire departments can register for the campaign and post their volunteer opportunities. Starting August 1, the NVFC will launch a public web site allowing potential volunteers to search for opportunities and connect with their local department.

This summer and fall, the NVFC will also be releasing resources through the campaign to help local fire departments recruit members. This includes recruitment ads and materials that departments can customize and localize using an online materials generator; tools to help departments reach target audiences such as millennials, women, and minorities; and training to assist departments in conducting a successful recruitment program. Register for the campaign now at http://portal.nvfc.org so you will have access to these tools as they are released.

Learn more about the Make Me a Firefighter campaign and the department portal by watching this video, and share it with others facing recruitment challenges: https://youtu.be/vhfk6lEyNKw

Dear Minnesota State Fire Department Association Members:

Many of you may have heard that our former treasurer Tony Bronk was recently charged for allegedly stealing $188,000 from our organization over the past four years.

We were shocked and angered by this unfortunate situation. I want to assure you that we value the trust you put in this organization. We believe in holding people accountable for their actions. We demand that the best and most reliable staff serves on the MSFDA Board of Directors so we can continue representing Minnesota firefighters and fire departments.

The MSFDA is financially sound. Here is what we have already done and what we will do in the coming days and weeks to ensure the funds you provide us are never mishandled again:

·         We have overhauled our financial policies and procedures.
·         We will institute  more checks and balances in our financial systems.
·         We will work with an external audit firm to ensure we have proper controls in place.

Please contact us if you would like more details about how we will ensure best practices in financial dealings are always followed.

Thank you for your continued support during this difficult situation. We are putting together a great conference for you June 11-13 in St. Cloud. We look forward to seeing you there.

Mark Rosenblum
MSFDA President
