The Minnesota State Fire Department Association (MSFDA) is the oldest organization representing firefighters in Minnesota. Since 1873, we have supported the fire service mission, advocated for resources, and provided quality training for firefighters. Currently, over 80% of the fire departments within the state are members of our organization. I encourage you to look through our website and view the benefits we offer.
In 2020, we received a SAFER grant from FEMA that has allowed us to kick off a statewide firefighter recruitment campaign. Our members can receive up to $3,250 for each new firefighter they recruit and hire over a four-year period or until the money runs out. This is a fantastic membership benefit rarely offered by non-profit organizations such as ours.
Have you been attending your MSFDA regional meetings? Participating in these meetings is a way to share information and discuss statewide fire service business with other firefighters in your area. It is also an opportunity to hear updates from the Fire Marshal’s office and talk one-on-one with representatives from the MBFTE, DNR, HSEM, and other MN fire service organizations. The meeting dates are posted on our website at www.msfda.org.
